Directly in front of the waterfront is the small island "Islote de los Ingleses", on which the first defense fort was built. Today it stands, after several attacks by pirates, destroyed and rebuilt in 1590, Castell de San Gabriel.
A small castle with belfries and guardhouses containing the "Museo de Historia de Arrecife", which shows Lanzarote finds before the Castilian conquest.
